Witnessing the Power of Nature

Erupting Geldingadalur volcano in Iceland

A 20km hike to Geldingadalur eruption

In the summer of 2021, Iceland’s Geldingadalur volcano erupted, and it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the raw power of nature. Our recent hike to the eruption site was a challenging but rewarding experience.

The hike to the eruption site was a 20km round trip, starting on the road near Grindavik and ending at the eruption site. The trail was rugged, with steep inclines and loose rock, but the views were breathtaking. We passed by snow-capped mountains, and hot springs, and the scenery was constantly changing as we got closer to the eruption site.

As we approached the eruption site, we could hear the roar of the volcano in the distance. The closer we got, the more intense the heat became, and we could feel the heat radiating from the volcano. We could see the ash plumes and the lava flow from a safe distance.

The eruption itself was an awe-inspiring sight. The lava was a brilliant orange color, and it flowed down the mountain, creating a river of fire. The ash plumes rose high into the sky, and the sound of the volcano was deafening. We watched in awe as the lava flowed and the ash plumes rose, feeling the raw power of nature.

The hike back down the mountain was just as challenging as the hike up, but we were exhausted but exhilarated, having witnessed one of the most incredible natural phenomena.

Overall, the hike to the Geldingadalur eruption was an unforgettable experience. The combination of the rugged terrain, the breathtaking scenery, and the opportunity to witness the raw power of nature made it one of the most memorable hikes we’ve ever taken. If you’re an adventurous person and looking for a unique experience, we highly recommend a visit to Geldingadalur eruption. It’s an experience you won’t soon forget. Please note that hiking to an active volcano can be dangerous, and it’s important to have proper gear and follow safety guidelines.
